Huntsville Public Library Friends, Inc.
The
Huntsville Public Library is proud to announce the new name for the
group
formerly known as Friends of the Library. The new name is the result of
recognition as a
501(C)3 with the IRS. This makes the HPL Friends, Inc eligible to apply for
grants on behalf of
the library. It also makes any monetary donations tax deductible.
The HPL
Friends, Inc. is a group whose purpose is to raise money for projects
beyond the means of a normal library budget. In the past, Friends' money
supplied computers, furniture for the library, special Saturday programs
for children, support for the Texas Reading Club and much more.
Recently, the HPL Friends, Inc. received a second $1000 donation
from the Huntsville Book Review Club for the library building fund.
The library today functions in the same building in which it began 38 years
ago.
Through the years, the library has made adjustments to compensate
for the needs of the citizens and changes in information science.
The time has come to seriously consider the current needs of the
community in library services. This donation and others like it
can help build a proper library befitting the Community of Huntsville.
