    Do you have children ages 2 or under? Then Mother Goose Lapsit is a story time designed for you! Held on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., enjoy a half-hour of developmentally appropriate play featuring stories, songs, and rhymes. This program introduces little ones to the story time experience and is perfect for their language development and developing vocabulary. Sign-up is not required.

  2. ESL New Student Orientation and Testing Sessions

    The Huntsville Public Library will host an ESL New Student Orientation and Testing Sessions from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, October 23 in the Community Room. The classes are taught by Lone Star College staff and dates and times will be announced at a later date.   3. Free Intermediate Computer Classes

    October 24, 2017, 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM @ Library Computer Lab

    The Huntsville Public Library is offering free Intermediate Computer Classes. Classes will be once a week at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays starting October 3rd through 31st in the Adult Computer Lab. These classes will feature class activities on how to create and save files, create and move files into folders, deleting file types and downloading files and programs. This program is for adults 18 years or older and you must bring your library card to attend class. Class size is limited so you must be registered to take the class. In just two days, you and your student can learn how to design a three-dimensional printed object. At the end of the course, each student will be able to take home his or her printed object. This program will be held from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening. This course is best suited for ages 7 through 17. Parent attendance is required for those under 13. Participants must bring their own USB drives to the class. Sign-up is required and can be found at www.myhuntsvillelibrary.com.

Wednesday and Friday sessions share a theme with something new each week. Sign-up is not required. Story times are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.

    Get in on the fun! Play Texas 42, a dominoes game similar in style to bridge and spades, at the Huntsville Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays in September. Studies show playing dominoes can be beneficial for the mind as attention to detail and strategy are essential to play. Come to the Community Room each week and strategize your winning moves.     The Huntsville Public Library will host free GED testing and orientation from 2:30 to 7 PM Wednesday, October 25. The classes will be taught by Lone Star College staff. Students are required to attend both Testing and Orientation in order to enroll. Students 19 years and older should bring with them a valid government-issued photo ID. Students 18 years of age, in addition to the ID, need a self-consent form, a parental consent form, and a withdrawal form from their previous institution.   12. Brown Bag Lecture Series

    Attention all literary aficionados! Dr. Gene Young, Professor of English at Sam Houston State University, will speak on “Texas Literature: Some Favorite Stories about Texas Writers” at the October 27th Brown Bag Lecture Series. Dr. Young will give a brief background and assessment of Texas literature. His presentation will include a handful of his favorite stories about a small selection of the better-known Texas fiction writers – J. Frank Dobie, Katherine Anne Porter, Elmer Kelton, Sandra Cisneros, Larry McMurtry, and Cormac McCarthy. Dr. Young has been reading Texas literature since he was a boy in the Texas Panhandle. One of his teaching specialties is, in fact, the literature, culture, and folklore of Texas. He has been a full-time Professor in the Department of English at SHSU since 1992. His main interest outside teaching is traditional American music. Attendees may bring a brown bag lunch. Lunch time begins at 11:30 and the lecture at noon. Beverages will be provided.

    The Huntsville Public Library will host free GED classes each Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. from October 14 through December 16. The classes will be taught by Lone Star College staff. Students are required to attend both Testing (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Orientation (1:30 to 4:30 p.m.) on Monday, October 2 OR Testing (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Orientation (1 to 4 p.m.) on Monday, October 9, in order to enroll.   14. Diabetes Self-Management Program Workshop

    These new workshops from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays from October 30 through December 4 at the Huntsville Public Library are focused around self-managed care for Diabetes. Sponsored by Texas A&M Center for Population Health & Aging and hosted by Huntsville Public Library, they are designed to help participants deal with the symptoms of Diabetes, such as fatigue, pain, stress and frustration. Other topics covered include: healthy eating, medication use, and working with health care providers. Limited to 16 participants, classes are hands-on and highly interactive. Cecilia “Ce” Schlicher, Master Trainer, recently completed her certification in the Chronic Pain Self-Management program, and works under the Texas A&M Center for Population Health & Aging license.
