  1. Brown Bag Lecture Series

    Brown Bag Lunch Lecture Series continues with a session on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Attendees may bring a brown bag lunch. Lunch time begins at 11:30 a.m. and the lecture will begin at noon. Michael Henderson, Associate Professor of Art at SHSU, will speak on “Art and Architecture in Texas: 3000 B.C. till Now”. The lecture series is planned for the fourth Thursday of each month.   2. Percussion Petting Zoo

    April 27, 2017, 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM @ Library

    The Percussion Studies Department of Sam Houston State University will bring musical instruments to the Huntsville Public Library from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27th. Learn about multicultural music traditions, "recycled" instruments, and play the instruments yourself in this Percussion Petting Zoo. This program is best suited for elementary ages. Sign-up is not required.

  3. Financial Literacy

    April 27, 2017, 5:30 PM - 6:45 PM @ Library - Board Room

    In observance of April being proclaimed Financial Literacy Month by Mayor Andy Brauninger, Huntsville Public Library will host the SHSU Student Money Management Center’s month-long series of financial workshops. Some of the sessions planned so far are “Match-Making: How to Make your Dreams Come True” in which participants will learn how to match their money with their goals; “College Costs: More than Tuition”; Investing in Undergraduate Education: Costs and Resources”; and, “Spending Plans: Meeting goals the Simple Way” which will be offered in English and Spanish. SHSU employees may utilize these external workshops as Continuing Education hours with their supervisor’s approval. No registration required.

    The Huntsville Public Library is offering free Microsoft Word classes. Classes will be held on Tuesdays or Fridays from 10:00 am to 11 am or on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 6:30pm starting April 4th through April 28th. These classes will feature class activities on typing and how to make corrections, formatting text with pictures and graphics, tables and outline with bullets. Class size is limited so you must be registered to take the class. You can register online at myhuntsvillelibrary.com or at the Tech Reference Desk.     Come to Story Time – a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. For parents and caregivers, story time offers an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. Wednesday and Friday sessions share a theme with something new each week. Sign-up is not required. Story times are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.
