Enjoy a half hour of developmentally appropriate activities featuring stories, songs, and rhymes every Monday at 10:30 a.m. This program introduces little ones to the story time experience and is perfect for developing language and vocabulary. Get in on the fun! Play Texas 42 at the Huntsville Public Library. Texas 42 is a dominoes game similar in style to bridge and spades. It is held from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays at the Library. Studies show playing dominoes can be beneficial for the mind as attention to detail and strategy are essential to play. So, come to the Library each week and strategize your winning moves. We’ll supply the dominoes and refreshments. Games will be played weekly if 4 or more players register. This program is for adults 18 years and older. Pilates student teachers from the SHSU Department of Dance will teach a weekly class from 5:45 PM to 6:30 PM starting Monday, February 19 through April 30th in the Community Room at the Huntsville Public Library. The Library is partnering with the SHSU Center for Community Engagement for this program. Pilates classes build strength, flexibility, and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Benefits include production of long, lean, strong overall muscle tone that doesn't create bulk, overall slimming, greatly improved flexibility and increased mobility, even in just a short space of time. Please bring your own towel or mat. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. Register for the Google Docs classes hosted by the Huntsville Public Library. Classes will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays in March. This class will teach how to upload, create, edit, and share documents using Google Docs. Class size is limited and registration is required. Come to Story Time – a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. For parents and caregivers, story time offers an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. Hop, hop, hop on over to the Huntsville Public Library’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt. This event will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28 on the lawn at City Hall. Start 2018 off with a new exercise program being offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning January 9th at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. The Huntsville Public Library will host free GED classes each Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. in April (dates to be announced). The classes will be taught by Lone Star College staff. Students are required to attend Orientation from noon to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7 and noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 29 to enroll. Students 19 years and older should bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Students 18 years of age and younger, in addition to the ID, need a self-consent form, a parental consent form, and a withdrawal form from their previous institution. Bring your ancestry “puzzle pieces” to the Huntsville Public Library’s free genealogy workshop, “Working Your Genealogy Puzzle,” and let us help you put it together from 3 pm to 5 pm Thursdays beginning. Johnnie Jo Dickenson will guide participants researching their family history using investigative tools such as online databases, resources, and the library’s extensive genealogy collection.
