Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! Start 2018 off with a new exercise program being offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning January 9th at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older. Do you want to learn how to build an app, design a video game and change the world through code? Come join the Huntsville Public Library’s Coding for Girls Club! The club is a free after-school activity for 6-12th grade girls. Members can learn coding and programming computer science skills. Come to Story Time – a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. For parents and caregivers, story time offers an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. Wednesday and Friday sessions share a theme with something new each week. Sign-up is not required. Story times are held on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:45 a.m.

The Huntsville Public Library will be hosting a FREE Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays starting on April 23, 2018 in the Community Room. The six-week program will be taught by Ce Cowart Schlicher and Dianne Dean with the Texas A & M Center for Population Health & Aging. Participants will learn: techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation and poor sleep; exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; appropriate use of medications; proper nutrition and communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals. Get in on the fun! Play Texas 42 at the Huntsville Public Library. Texas 42 is a dominoes game similar in style to bridge and spades. It is held from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays at the Library. Studies show playing dominoes can be beneficial for the mind as attention to detail and strategy are essential to play. So, come to the Library each week and strategize your winning moves. We’ll supply the dominoes and refreshments. Games will be played weekly if 4 or more players register. This program is for adults 18 years and older.
