Medicare’s Open Enrollment Workshop

Medicare’s Open Enrollment runs October 15th - December 7th.  For those who receive Medicare, it is the time to shop health and drug plans to secure the best coverage for the year ahead. However, the different options can be confusing, and it is easy to feel bombarded by offers from insurance companies. Get help at a free workshop from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, November 5th in the Huntsville Public Library’s Staggs Community Room. In this free Open Enrollment Workshop, a certified Benefits Counselor will describe the basics of Medicare, the different coverage options available, potential assistance programs to help reduce Medicare- related costs and will help attendees avoid common coverage issues. Healthy Aging

Health issues confronting Seniors become more important as the aging population of baby
boomers learns to cope with a variety of physical and mental challenges. A series of workshops during October and November at the Huntsville Public Library will address nutrition, brain health, heart health, and how to guard against the cold and flu season. “Eat Right for Healthy Aging” will be the first presentation by Lynette Azar of Angels Care Home Health from 11-12 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2 in the Staggs Community Room. Spanish classes

Sign up now for free Spanish classes! Instructor Beth Williamson will be teaching two
levels of Spanish on Wednesdays in the Huntsville Public Library’s Community Room.
Intermediate Class will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. and Beginners Class from 5:15 to 7 p.m.
The 13-week program begins September 5, 2018, and all materials are provided.

FamilySearch Workshop

The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Interested persons should contact Mary Kokot, Adult Program Coordinator at 936-291-5471. Sign-up is required. Book Club

Be part of the adult book club at the Huntsville Public Library! All interested persons are welcome to join in the fun from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Book clubs are an excellent way to enjoy books, challenge one’s mind, and socialize with other book lovers! Have fun reading a wide variety of books, making friends, meeting like-minded people and stimulating the brain cells! For membership, register here.


Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on
Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.
