Summer Reading Program

The Huntsville Public Library welcomes you to “A Universe of Stories!” at this year’s Summer Reading Program held from Saturday, June 1 through Friday, July 12. Come to the Kick-off Party from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. The last official day to turn in your reading log is Friday, July 19. For every three books read or for every library program attended, participants will receive a raffle ticket. Participants can use that raffle ticket to enter for a chance to win a raffle prize. Those who read at least three books will win a guaranteed prize while supplies last. To participate in this all-ages program, Click here for  sign up or sign up in the library. The Houston Museum of Natural Science will bring the astronomical wonders of the universe to the Huntsville Public Library at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1 in the Staggs Community Room. Investigate our place in space and the ways we study this exciting place full of planets, moons, stars, and galaxies. Would you like to read ebooks on a new smartphone or tablet? Great! The Huntsville Public Library has the OverDrive app that will let you borrow digital ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and educational video with your library card, and it's all free. If you have questions about downloading or using OverDrive, come join us at 11 p.m.Tuesday, July 9 in the Nash Board Room at the Huntsville Public Library. ​Frances Sprott Goforth Memorial Genealogy Weekend

The Huntsville Public Library and the Walker County Genealogical Society will host the 7th annual Frances Sprott Goforth Memorial Genealogy Weekend on 
August 2nd and 3rd, 2019. On-site registration for “Believe It or Not? – How to Verify Research” will begin at 9:30 a.m. for both days at the Huntsville Public Library. Programs will be presented from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.on Friday, August 2 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 3. A light supper will be provided on Friday. The library will remain open until 8 p.m. for further research for attendees only. A silent auction of books and genealogical materials will be held during the weekend and will end at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. The event is free, but pre-registration is suggested. ​Family Search Workshop

The Huntsville Public Library is pleased to announce an opportunity for genealogy enthusiasts and newcomers alike to meet with experienced and qualified genealogical researchers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. One-hour sessions will be offered weekly on Thursdays. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendance will be limited to no more than four researchers. The small group will allow each participant to receive individual attention. Sign-up is not required. This program is for adults 17 and older.

If your family tree is missing some branches, then sign up for “Exploring”, a
workshop devoted to teaching the basics of this online family history resource. The workshop will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on the first Friday of each month from  Develop the skill sets needed for online genealogical research. Learn how to navigate the different learning centers and databases. Discover family tree members using tools such as vital, census, military, and immigration records. The site is free to library patrons when used on the library’s computers. Limit 4 per session. Book Club

Be part of the adult book club at the Huntsville Public Library! All interested persons are welcome to join in the fun from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Book clubs are an excellent way to enjoy books, challenge one’s mind, and socialize with other book lovers! Have fun reading a wide variety of books, making friends, meeting like-minded people and stimulating the brain cells! For membership, register here.


Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! It’s an exercise program offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. See dates hereSittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older.
